Singer, Flautist, saxophonist, dancer, equally at ease with salsa (she performed with Ruben Bladès, Luis "Perico" Ortiz, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico), Latin Jazz (with Danilo Perez) and R&B (with Jennifer Holliday & Sonny Emory), as well as with Jazz (Slide Hampton). Shekinah Rodz brought her blend of influences to a Latin Jazz Quartet featuring Lionel Fortin, Olivier Gatto & Nikos Kapilidis. Salsa, jazz, Brazilian & Cuban standards, performed with charm, talent & passion, make for a very colourful and joyful blend. Shekinah Rodz was raised in Caguas, Puerto Rico where she studied classical saxophone. In 2005, she moved to Atlanta to take a masters degree at the Georgia State University. After completing her first year in classical saxophone, Shekinah was surrounded with great jazz musicians in Atlanta, and fell in love with jazz. As a consequence, she changed her major to jazz saxophone, studying two more years at GSU, to complete her masters degree in Jazz Studies. In addition to touring and playing extensively throughout the US, Rodz has made teaching a priority in her professional career. In 2006, she started teaching at the CanZion Insitute, Atlanta, where she teaches voice, music theory, pitch recognition/listening skills, arrangement, harmony, music education; she also directs the choir.
